Business Development
Richard joined HedgeStart in 2009, starting as the interim COO for a client, but since then as Business Development Manager working to help broaden and build the company. He has over 20 years’ experience working as a relationship manager, strategic project manager and sales and marketing professional in both investment management and financial institution outsource service companies. In 2006, Richard joined HBK, a Geneva-based, multi-family wealth management company helping to set up and run their FSA-authorised, UK operation, where he was supported by HedgeStart’s compliance, accounting & payroll and tax departments. He spent three years working on a range of projects, including developing the in-house funds of funds to be marketed beyond the discretionary client base, attaining operational due diligence certification on the company and the funds of funds, and being integral to the manager and fund research team. Before HBK, Richard was an independent marketing and business strategy consultant and interim manager, working principally for service companies to financial institutions. In 1994, seeking the more entrepreneurial environment of a smaller company, Richard joined Euraplan Limited as Sales and Marketing Director, servicing the investment and accounting needs of major UK pension funds. Whilst at Euraplan he also completed a Masters degree in management at London Business School. His early career at wealth manager Rathbone Brothers and stockbroker Tilney was followed by several years at systems, service and data provider Datastream International. Here he moved from client and product support to marketing, and was product manager for the range of investment accounting and valuations services used by major financial institutions.
