Matthew has specialised in providing business services and consultancy to investment managers and hedge funds for over 20 years. He founded HedgeStart in late 2000 as a vehicle to deliver focused consultancy services to both start-up and established hedge fund managers.

Prior to HedgeStart, Matthew was CFO and COO at Bessent Capital, which launched as a $1bn long-short equity fund in October 2000. He worked with ex-Soros principal Scott Bessent to deliver the strategic and operational infrastructure across two locations (London and New York) for one of the largest fund launches of 2000.

Before Bessent, Matthew ran finance, operations and administration for Soros's first London office, having set up the business as a consultant in 1992/3. During his time there, the business grew from just four staff initially to over 90. He was responsible for all non-trading aspects of the London operations, including business and operational strategy.

Matthew joined Soros from Coopers & Lybrand, where he specialised in consulting and audit services for securities and asset management businesses. He also acted for the industry regulator in various capacities. Matthew qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984 after reading Chemistry at Oxford University.
