HedgeStart was founded in 2000 to offer project-based consultancy services to investment managers.

For investment companies to succeed, they must not only demonstrate good performance, but also have effective corporate structures with robust and scalable operations. For smaller and start up companies this can be difficult to achieve, which presented founder Matthew Wilson with his initial opportunity. To fulfil this niche, HedgeStart’s strategy has since been to build a broader-based business, attracting experts from complementary disciplines, offering services to cover essential but non-core functions.

Matthew was joined by Rob Edwards (Corporate Tax) in 2001. They gradually added to the number of partners and range of services, IT under Andrew Cleaver in 2002 (procurement, implementation, support and maintenance), FCA compliance under Andy Wood in 2004 (applications for authorisation, regulatory compliance monitoring) and we strengthend Private Client Tax in 2008, now under Laurence Parry. Adrian Johnson joined in 2011 to manage and run the Accounting and Payroll function. Richard Jobling has been responsible for Business Development since 2009. The teams managed by the partners have grown steadily in parallel with the expansion of the client base.

HedgeStart has become a well respected consultant and outsource partner, serving a wide range of both start-up and established investment businesses and is now 40+ people strong, based in purpose designed offices in Haymarket, central London.
